Changing your Job Hours is a Great Stress Solution
by: Anonymous

Dear Emily,

Boy, you did have a rough time of it.

Hormones can really make having a young baby in the house extra stressful. The time when you want to be bonding with your child, and you imagine you should be ecstatic with happiness, can be miserable.

And on top of it, you were also involved with a stressful job--being a policewoman.

I'm very impressed with your insight and ability to take action. You hubby sounds wonderful. You both were able to make a good decision about how to correct your situation.

Reducing work hours is always a good idea if you can afford it. And getting help from your spouse is not only valuable because it helps you out, but also because it gives him time to bond with your daughter. He becomes an integral part of your new family, and he has something to do. (Sometimes fathers of babies find themselves displaced because so much of baby-care, like nursing, is specific to mothers.)

Bravo for you and your family. You found an excellent way to cope with your stress. I wish you and your new family many years of relaxed enjoyment with each other!

Julia
